Textile Design Styling

The textile product design and management projects can take upwards of six months to develop and then 90 days to manufacture before the product is shipped from overseas to the USA. My role for these and other projects would be to strategically plan and manage sourcing, timelines, design patterns, colors and specifications on sewing and packaging, as well as approve the samples for shipping. I would choose and curate patterns from design archives or purchase the pattens from studios, and then work up color pallets for cad designers to update designs.  When sending overseas, I would work closely with the factories to ensure colors and patterns were clearly understood and next steps were defined.  I would relay any issues back to sales and merchandising and trouble shoot any problems that came along during production or during the design phase.  During market week presentations, I would walk customers, retailers and design teams through the showroom, explaining the details and any inspiration behind the patterns.

INDIGO PRINT

This pattern was for Sigrid Olsen brand.  I worked closely with her for design and color inspiration, and gave art direction to the CAD designers.  Once Sigrid approved with the concepts, I worked with the factories overseas in China and India to develop the fabric and accessories. The top of bed fabrics were printed in China on textured cotton. The pillows were different textures, silk dip-dye, embroidered cotton, and knit.  The bed skirt is a yarn dye woven fabric with a grosgrain ribbon detail.  I sourced the decorative accessories in India, and coordinated all samples to arrive in time to display at market week.  I presented the bedding ensembles to the retailers.

MODERN FLORAL

This is another pattern for Sigrid Olsen brand. Working with patterns she liked and a neutral color palette, I worked with the weaving mill in China to have a textured jacquard pattern.  The accessories are all from India, working with the factories there to print, knit and embroider different textures to bring additional depth and coziness to the bed. There is also a woven throw that coordinates to the bed with fringe.  I approved all colors, fabrics and samples in order to get the bedding ensemble for display in the showroom for market week.  The product was sourced and sampled in multiple factories and countries, which I coordinated to receive in time for presentation to the retailers.

ENGINEERED JACQUARD

This is an engineered jacquard pattern for Sigrid Olsen Home.  The top of bed fabric is an jacquard pattern that is engineered specifically for each size of bedding mattress.  The European sham and bed skirt are a woven stripe.  The sham was cut and sewn to create a special square pattern from the stripe.  Coordinating decorative pillow accessories add additional texture of beading, silk stripes, and embroidery.  There is a coordinating quilt and shams in a faux silk that gives the bed additional shine and glamour.  I managed the timeline of getting samples while working with the China and Indian factories that were working on fabrics and samples.  I reviewed all yarns and fabric for approval before completing the samples for showroom review.

OMBRE

This ombre woven pattern is also from the Sigrid Olsen brand.  I worked closely with the factory in China to get the ombre effect in soft greens and neutrals woven so the damask pattern could be visible but still faint.  The sheeting design has a special hem treatment that gives added text.  The decorative accessories have sequins and embroidery textures.  The bed skirt has a tailored pleating design that offers a more traditional styling to the bed. I worked closely with the factories in India to match colors, fabric qualities and get the added design elements approved.

TOMMY CARGO

This is a pattern from Tommy Hilfiger Home.  Designed for Back to School time of year, the bedding ensemble that took a nod from the cargo pants trend, as well as the TH logo design.  I collaborated with the factory in Mexico to get the twill fabric quality, color and printing to match the TH standards.  I sourced the TH shank buttons for the closure on the pocket and duvet opening.  The decorative pillows were sweater pattern designs that included the flag logo, as well as the corduroy pattern with Hilfiger patch.

TH Tommy (1).jpg

TOMMY.COM

This a fun and whimsical pattern for Tommy Hilfiger Home.  The pattern was brightly  colored and printed in Mexico. The decorative accessories were more sports driven, with a nylon quilted pillow with an embroidery detail. For added fun, a blow up pillow with hologram pattern for some additional shine and texture.  There are engineered pillow cases that had logo prints on them.  Added for warmth was the printed quilt design with more graphic pattern design.  I managed the timelines of getting samples, and approving all the colors and fabrics with the factory.

TH Beachcomber (1).jpg

BEACHCOMBER

This is small ditsy print pattern in fun colors paired with a small blue menswear check pattern.  It is paired with patchwork pillows and a tufted chenille coverlet to added warmth and comfort.  There is also a lightweight cotton patchwork coverlet that pairs with the bedding, shown in the photo as European shams.  The rosebud sheeting has a small inserted piping for added details.  I handled all the fabric approvals and sampling requirements while working with the factories in Mexico and India.

TH Country Chic (1).jpg

COUNTRY CHIC

This design is called Country Chic, also for the Tommy Hilfiger Home line.  Finding the artwork through an antique fabric dealer's studio, I had it colored in bright colors, and paired it with a small blue circle pattern, and a blue plaid pattern for the bed skirt.  There is a sheeting design with a special cuff on the hems.  Also added in for another layer, is a lightweight cotton patchwork coverlet.  For this project, I sourced the antique fabric and worked with a CAD studio to have the artwork recolored, and then managed all the printing and color approvals with the factory.  I also worked with the Indian supplier to get the samples and colors on the coverlet correct.
